The South Carolina Botanical Garden covers 295 acres on the Clemson University campus and is free to visit. The gardens include cultivated display gardens, a geology museum, nature trails through Piedmont forest, and a stream corridor that is beautiful year-round.
The Natural Heritage Garden trail loops through forest and wetland habitat with boardwalk crossings over streams. It is flat, easy, and a nice break from more strenuous hiking. The Camellia Trail and Wildflower Meadow are standouts in spring.
This is a Level 1 experience that works for everyone. Strollers roll on most paths. The terrain is gentle. Restrooms are available at the Discovery Center. Free admission makes this a no-risk stop on any Upstate trip.
