Georgetown is the third-oldest city in South Carolina and its waterfront is one of the prettiest on the coast. The Harborwalk runs along the Sampit River through the historic downtown, past shrimp boats, seafood restaurants, and the Georgetown Lighthouse visible across the harbor.
The boardwalk is flat, paved, and easy for everyone. Street-level shops and restaurants line one side while the river stretches on the other. Fishing from the public dock is allowed and productive for flounder, spot, and blue crabs.
Georgetown does not get the tourist traffic of Charleston or Myrtle Beach, which is part of its charm. The downtown is walkable, the restaurants serve some of the best seafood on the coast, and the pace is genuinely relaxed.
