Surfside Beach Surf Fishing

Surfside Beach offers some of the best surf fishing on the Grand Strand. Pompano, whiting, red drum, and flounder from the beach. The pier extends the range. Best at dawn and dusk.

Surfside Beach is one of the best surf fishing spots on the Grand Strand. The beach is less crowded than Myrtle Beach proper, the access is easy, and the fishing is consistently good for pompano, whiting, red drum, and flounder. Surf fishing from the beach requires minimal gear: a medium-heavy rod, a fish finder rig, and fresh shrimp or sand fleas.

Tips from the field

  • Dawn and dusk are the best fishing windows.
  • Fresh shrimp and sand fleas are the top baits for pompano and whiting.
  • Red drum run in fall. September and October are prime.
  • The pier adds range for king mackerel in summer.
