The ACE Basin takes its name from the Ashepoo, Combahee, and Edisto rivers that drain into this extraordinary estuary. At 350,000 acres, it is one of the largest undeveloped estuaries on the East Coast and one of the most important wildlife habitats in the Southeast.
Paddling the tidal creeks of the ACE Basin is a wildlife experience unlike anything else in South Carolina. Bald eagles are common. Wood storks wade in the shallows. Bottlenose dolphins work the tidal channels. Alligators sun on the banks. The marsh grass turns gold in fall and the sunsets are extraordinary.
