Colleton State Park sits on the banks of the Edisto River near Walterboro and offers some of the best river camping in South Carolina. The campsites are close to the river, and the sound of the Edisto moving through the cypress and tupelo forest is the soundtrack to every night here. The park is a key stop on the Edisto Canoe Trail.

  • Riverside campsites book fast. Reserve well in advance.
  • The Edisto Canoe Trail runs through the park. Paddlers use this as an overnight stop.
  • Bring bug spray. Lowcountry camping in summer requires it.
  • The blackwater river is best paddled in the morning when it is calm.
