The Foothills Trail is South Carolina’s premier long-distance hiking trail, running 77 miles along the Blue Ridge Escarpment from Table Rock State Park to Oconee State Park. Thru-hiking the full trail takes 5 to 8 days and crosses some of the most beautiful mountain terrain in the Southeast. Waterfalls, mountain streams, ridgeline views, and old-growth forest are constants.
Tips from the field
Full thru-hike is Level 5. Day hike sections are Level 3-4.
Spring and fall are ideal. Winter ice on exposed sections is dangerous.
Water filtration is essential. Multiple stream crossings.
Bear-aware food storage recommended for overnight trips.
