Kings Mountain State Park shares a boundary with Kings Mountain National Military Park and together they cover thousands of acres of Piedmont forest with some of the best trail hiking between Charlotte and Spartanburg.
The park’s trail network totals about 16 miles, with options ranging from easy loops around the lake (Level 2) to longer ridge trails that connect to the national military park (Level 3). The terrain is rolling hardwood forest with moderate climbs, creek crossings, and rocky sections that keep things interesting without being punishing.
The Living History Farm is a working 19th-century farmstead with historic buildings, animals, and seasonal demonstrations. Kids love it. Adults find it genuinely interesting. The campground has tent and RV sites, and the park rents canoes and kayaks for the small lake.
